General Description: 
The Department of Chemistry at Rutgers University, Camden plans to make a tenure track appointment at the Assistant Professor level to commence on Sept 1, 2020, or shortly thereafter. The appointment will be in the broadly defined areas of Toxicology or Drug Chemistry. Candidates with expertise in forensic toxicology are especially encouraged to apply. 

The candidate is expected to establish an externally funded research program and participate in the Chemistry Department's and Forensic Science Program's undergraduate and graduate teaching mission. The teaching load is 2 courses per semester, with possible course releases allowing time for administrative duties.

The Department of Chemistry, Rutgers University-Camden:
The Department of Chemistry (https://chemistry.camden.rutgers.edu/ ) is ACS accredited, with faculty engaged in research, mentorship and teaching of undergraduate and graduate students. The department services approximately 500 undergraduate and graduate students in chemistry, biology, physics, nursing, health sciences, and forensic sciences. Collaborative opportunities are available with science faculty affiliated with the center of computational & integrative biology, physics, computer science, mathematics and biology.

Responsibilities:
The incumbent faculty member shall:
1. Build a robust, independent and nationally recognized research program 
2. Pursue internal or external funding and publish in peer-reviewed journals
3. Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in independent projects related to chemistry and forensic sciences
4. Maintain a rigorous and robust teaching program in forensic toxicology, forensic chemistry, analytical chemistry, or related disciplines
5. Be familiar with and teach to the educational requirements and expectations associated with FEPAC accreditation, and develop course content that meets these requirements
6. Manage and train part-time laboratory staff, lecturers, or teaching assistants in Forensic Science and Chemistry laboratory procedures, methods and instructional practices
7. Aid in the maintenance and management of laboratories, shared facilities, instrumentation or space

Applicant Requirements:
Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Toxicology or related field. The successful candidate must have a demonstrated excellence in both teaching and research that incorporates a chemical approach to forensic practices and theories. Preferred areas of forensic focus include Forensic Chemistry, Forensic Toxicology, and Forensic Trace Analysis (i.e., material characterization). Excellence in research will be demonstrated by publications in top-ranked and field-relevant academic journals as appropriate for stage of career; research that targets such publication venues; presentations at significant disciplinary conferences; grants or awards as appropriate for stage of career; and strong endorsements by referees of national stature. Evidence for excellence will be provided through strong letters of reference; a research statement; and a teaching statement.

The successful applicant should have a proven record of professional forensic-related activities such as research and research network activities within the forensic community, publications, presentations, projects, mentoring, etc. Experience working with forensic experts to address theoretical and practical issues is desirable. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement our existing strengths in the Department of Chemistry and the Forensic Science Program.
