Job Details
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Auburn University seeks to fill the position of Macromolecular X-ray Lab Director. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: (1) operating and maintaining the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry's Bruker D8 Venture dual source X-ray diffractometer and Art Robbins Instruments Crystal Gryphon crystallization robot, (2) maintaining the computers and software needed to run the instrumentation and data processing stations, (3) assisting researchers with screens for crystallization, optimization, and cryoprotection, (4) aiding with crystallographic data collection/processing and structure solution/refinement, (5) supervising a graduate student who will assist in the operation of the laboratory, (6) collaborating with researchers on projects and proposals, (7) organizing trips to synchrotron national user facilities, and (8) billing for services pertaining to the X-ray lab.
Entry into the applicant pool requires a PhD from an accredited institution in X-ray Crystallography, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or closely related field plus at least 5 years of experience in analyzing biochemical problems and coordinating lab operations, procedures, and instruction.
The ability to analyze biochemical problems using X-ray crystallography, run and maintain the X-ray diffractometer, crystallization robot and data systems, keep billing records, organize experiments, and effectively communicate with other personnel is required. Knowledge of laboratory techniques, safety procedures, and teaching principles is also required.
