The assistant or associate professor is a full-time, tenure-track appointment within the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Responsibilities include teaching in the Pharm.D. curriculum, research and service. This position will report to the department chair with a distribution of effort proportionate with the appointed rank.

Principal Functional Responsibilities

1) Research: Develop and maintain an independent, extramurally-funded research program in his/her area of interest and expertise that is in alignment with the department research focus areas. A high degree of scholarship productivity, as measured in quantity and quality of peer-reviewed scholarly publications and receipt of peer-reviewed research funding will be expected. Publish results both in discovery and pedagogical, in appropriate professional journals and books. Present scholarly works locally, regionally and nationally.
2) Teaching: Contribute to curriculum development and delivery for the College of Pharmacy. This includes: development of a course in at least one of the following subspecialty areas: (medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, pharmacogenomics and biopharmaceutics) for Pharm.D. students; preparation and presentation of teaching/learning experiences, class materials and examinations in assigned courses; and monitoring and maintaining records of student progress in assigned courses. Act as an advisor to graduate and mentor pharmacy students in both, the classroom and lab. This may include undergraduate students where/when appropriate.
3) Service: Participate in department, College and/or University service responsibilities. Service contributions may also include participation in professional organizations.
4) Perform other duties as assigned by the department Chair.

Qualifications

Education/Degrees: Ph.D. or equivalent research-based earned doctorate and postdoctoral or previous experience with government or industry in an area related to the desired subspecialty areas: Medicinal Chemistry/Pharmacology/Toxicology/Pharmacogenomics/Biopharmaceutics/pharmacokinetics.

Experience: Possess a record of intellectual and professional growth attested to by:
• Significant track record of funded research, especially as a Principal Investigator of NIH R and P series grants or equivalent, and with rising momentum for continued external support of research,
• A substantial portfolio of peer-reviewed publications,
• Subject-matter expertise in at least one of the sub-specialty areas: Medicinal Chemistry/Pharmacology/Toxicology/Pharmacogenomics/Biopharmaceutics/Pharmacokinetics.
• Evidence of successful mentorship of undergraduate, professional or doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows and junior colleagues.
