Job Details

Monmouth College, a selective, private, residential liberal arts college in Illinois invites applications for a tenure-track position in Chemical Engineering to help us continue to write a new chapter in our tradition of educating students.

In keeping with our liberal arts mission, we seek to educate engineers broadly—producing engineering graduates who are outstanding technical problem solvers, who understand culture and context, and who can communicate their ideas clearly.  We refer to this approach as “renaissance engineering”—producing engineers who are renaissance people.  Our new faculty member, working in our newly expanded Department of Physics and Engineering and in our Department of Chemistry will help build an ABET accredited program offering a B.S.E. with tracks in Mechanical, Electrical, and Chemical Engineering.  We seek an Assistant/Associate/Professor of Chemical Engineering (any sub-field, PhD by time of arrival).  We believe that this is an excellent opportunity for an engineering professor to help shape and build an innovative program in a creative way.  Our new professor will have deep interests in teaching and will continue to develop professionally in ways that support undergraduate students. We are particularly interested in increasing participation and success in engineering by underrepresented groups. Post-doctoral and/or teaching and/or industry experience is a plus.  Rank negotiable.  Limited startup funds available.

Located in the welcoming community of Monmouth, Illinois, the college is a member of the prestigious Associated Colleges of the Midwest. Following the adoption and implementation of a groundbreaking interdisciplinary general education curriculum and the continuation of a bold strategic plan titled “Think Anew, Act Anew,” the college is now prepared to move confidently forward as an innovator among liberal arts colleges. Monmouth is again in the top tier of U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges for National Liberal Arts Colleges, is ranked 70th out of 240 schools in the “National Universities – Liberal Arts” category by Washington Monthly, and was recognized in the top 5% of U.S. Colleges by College Factual for colleges that provide value for students. The College’s mission statement can be found here: https://ou.monmouthcollege.edu/about/mission-statement.aspx

Review of applications will begin on January 6, 2020 and proceed until the positions are filled.  To apply, please send by email a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy, (which includes a discussion of diversity, inclusion, and increasing the participation and success of underrepresented groups in engineering), a statement of research/professional development interests,  and three letters of recommendation to Dr. Christopher Fasano, Chair, Department of Physics and Engineering, Monmouth College at facultysearch@monmouthcollege.edu.
