POSITIONS

Adams State University invites applications for a visiting position in Chemistry or Physics at the assistant Professor level (position number FS9121).  

STARTING DATE

August 20, 2020

POSITION DESCRIPTION

We seek energetic and enthusiastic individuals who love teaching and share our dedication to students. Major responsibilities include teaching General Chemistry with labs and other courses equal to 12 semester hours of chemistry per semester or teaching General Physics with labs and other courses equal to 12 semester hours of physics per semester.  Course assignments will depend upon the background and expertise of the candidate and the needs of the department.

Faculty expectations for this position include engagement in student recruitment, retention efforts and in assessment of student learning outcomes

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in chemistry/physics or a closely related field is required; PhD is preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching and student-centered learning
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to valuing equity, treating cultural and linguistic diversity as assets, and promoting inclusiveness
  • Demonstrated commitment to, and relative ability successfully working collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituents.
  • Ability to treat others with respect, civility, and courtesy and to work honestly, effectively, and collegiality with employees, students, and the community.  This includes the ability to use appropriate conflict management skills to effectively manage any disagreement that might arise or to bring the disagreement to management for assistance in productive resolution when the situation requires.  
  • Adams State University is committed to the development of online courses and programs. The online division of the university is Adams State Online. The university has a comprehensive Academic Instructional Technology Center committed to the support of faculty teaching online. Support includes training in the process of teaching online, Instructional designers to support the development and designing of online courses and instructional tools to support video lectures, live classrooms and cloud-
    based storage for instructional training videos. Successful candidate for this position will be committed to the willingness to develop and teach online courses.

  SALARY

$42,000 - $47,000 depending upon qualifications, discipline, and experience.  Adams State University offers a competitive benefits package.

The Chemistry Program and Physics are housed in the Department of Chemistry, Computer Science and Math at Adams State University.   The Chemistry Program offers Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Chemistry.
