Job Details

The Chemical Sciences Division of the Army Research Office (ARO) in Research Triangle Park, NC, is actively looking to fill a position of program manager to lead an innovative, high pay-off, basic research program in the area of experimental organic and inorganic chemistry. The ideal candidate would have a Ph.D. in Chemistry and experience in conducting research in the area primarily related to: catalysis and surface science such as nanostructured surfaces, catalysis, organized assemblies, and stimuli-responsive chemical systems.  Program management experience in these areas is desired, but not essential.  The duties involve identification of new scientific opportunities (focus areas) for basic research investments, formulation of research programs based on the focus areas, management of the programs primarily through grants/contracts to the extramural research community (e.g. Universities) and transition of that knowledge to the Army. The research breakthroughs derived from the program will ultimately lead to the development of critical new technologies and capabilities to empower future U.S. Army Soldiers. The program manager will be expected to maintain on-going awareness of recent developments in the fields of catalysis, nanochemistry, and stimuli-responsive chemical systems, as well as, conduct workshops and studies to identify new emerging opportunities for future investments.

Minimum qualifications are based on federal qualification standards for GS 12 through 15 (1320 Chemist job series) available at https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/1300/chemistry-series-1320/ .  FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
