Located in a city known for its rich technology and innovative leadership, our Boston Research Center sits adjacent to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The center conducts research in computational reservoir modeling and nanotechnology and develops advanced materials science and separation technology systems.

Basic Function

Perform work involving investigations requiring sound knowledge of one of the industrial laboratory-oriented engineering disciplines, with minimum supervision. Candidate will also carry out specialized synthesis or analysis of nanoscale material and chemical systems.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Professionally conduct analytical and industrial chemical projects from an investigative standpoint arising in production, exploration and reservoir engineering and other oilfield activities.
  • Carry out state-of-the-art synthetic and analytical chemistry investigations relating to technical problems outside the scope of available literature, in a research program focused on new nanoscale materials and chemicals for Reservoir Engineering
  • Plan and perform laboratory experiments and help to develop new material and chemical systems using knowledge and skills in the areas of chemistry, materials science, physics, chemical engineering, or other engineering discipline
  • Conduct and interpret technical experiments, reactions or syntheses, analyses, and tests requiring specific technical knowledge and techniques in projects supporting company research, production or service operations
  • Convey the results of key experiments to senior researchers in concise and clear tabulations, graphs, and complete professional reports in format suitable for publication either as a technical article or for patent application
  • Support and maintain lab/field equipment as necessary
  • Record laboratory experiments and other data and workflow in a laboratory notebook or through group-specific data management systems and databases in accordance with company policies
  • Keep current with significant developments in the field of specialization; is expected to use these in high investigative assignments when applicable
  • Maintain and update his/her working knowledge of applicable state-of- the-art laboratory instrumentation
  • Provide and manage a safe, accident-free laboratory environment; follow all company safety rules in performing job duties
  • Complete professional reports in format suitable for publication either as a technical article or for patent application
  • Perform other miscellaneous related duties as requested

Education and Experience

  • B.S. Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science discipline as appropriate for the area of expertise for the assigned jobs
  • Three (3) years’ work experience in a substantive industrial, technological or laboratory area relevant to the job assignment
  • Prior knowledge and skills with various chemical synthetic and analytical techniques including fluorescence spectroscopy, NMR, GC-MS, GC, and HPLC or other separation techniques strongly preferred
  • Prior knowledge and skills in characterization and measurement of emulsions, rheology, and fluid transport in porous media
  • Candidate should be comfortable with working independently or part of a project team, frequent project presentation, and travel to meetings at conferences and universities 
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined
