JOB PURPOSE: Responsible to manage Discovery Chemistry projects. Ensuring end-to-end planning, designing and managing experiments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The individual will be responsible for the design and synthesis of new agents for the potential treatment of human diseases with an emphasis on Cardiovascular, Fibrosis, Immunology, and Oncology disease areas. The individual will apply modern techniques in organic chemistry and go wherever the science leads to solving problems of relevance to the assigned project and therapeutic area. The individual will be expected to lead a team of 3-4 bench chemists.

KEY CAPABILITIES:

Candidates must have experience in designing and executing multistep synthesis of complex organic molecules using modern techniques in organic chemistry. Candidates will have expertise in the purification and characterization of organic compounds (Chromatography and NMR, MS, IR spectroscopy). Excellent problem-solving skills and a thorough understanding of synthetic methods and reaction mechanisms are required. Good oral/written communication skills and a desire to work in a collaborative team environment are required.

SKILLS: 

The candidate must demonstrate expertise in synthetic organic chemistry and appropriate analytical techniques. Shows creativity in designing synthetic schemes. Effectively communicates ideas, issues and concerns to influence the team and departmental program decisions. Effective in writing appropriate documents, progress reports, publications and memos. 

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:

Candidates must have a PhD in organic chemistry with 1-5 years of additional related research experience
