Job Details

Are you a science geek who possesses a little bit of social flair and a sense of humor? If you answered yes, this is the job for you. Growing up you probably built your own crystal radio, caused havoc with lava overflows from your erupting volcanoes and set the lawn ablaze launching your homemade rockets. Your favorite Halloween get ups were a white lab coated mad scientist or a robot that you built yourself using cardboard boxes, dryer vent ducts and LED’s.

We are searching for a Chemstation turned MassHunter Guru who is on top of every detail. Running out of carrier gas or heating a column with no gas flow only happens in your dreams. Leaky septa drive you nuts and clipping columns or cleaning the ion source are second nature and you can do them in your sleep.

What you’ll do:

You will have the opportunity to work in a independent 17025 ISO-accredited laboratory that invests heavily in state of the art instrumentation and analytical technologies and partners with the world’s greatest winemakers to provide them with innovative analytical tools and an unmatched technical expertise to support their winemaking craft.

You'll be joining our laboratory team in St. Helena that is responsible for analytical work and laboratory support functions in a fast paced, high through-put production laboratory. We boast a diverse, highly trained team with a broad range of experience and advanced degrees. Although we’ve grown to five locations, we are still a small family-owned business.

You have superior organizational skills, are extremely detail oriented and able to perform high volume, precise analytical work under pressure with calm confidence, speed and accuracy.

You share our focus and commitment to continuous quality, innovation, and learning to help drive future development and deliver greater value to our clients and support them as they make the world’s finest wines.

No experience in the wine industry is required. ETS does not sponsor for employment based visas for this position now or in the future.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performing GC analysis in a commercial laboratory serving the wine, beer, cider and spirits industries
  • Daily operation and maintenance of multiple GC, GC/MS, GC/MS/MS systems.
  • Generation of quality system-compliant data
  • Working with team members to execute analysis conforming to SOPs and to maintain good record keeping practices
  • Identifying instrument problems and performing routine troubleshooting
  • Participation in and promotion of continuous improvement efforts within the laboratory

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry or a related field
  • 2 or more years experience in a production laboratory
  • Experience with sample preparation and extraction techniques (SPE, SPME)
  • Experience with chromatographic techniques and instrumentation (GC, GC/MS, GC/MS/MS)
  • Experience working in an ISO 17025 environment preferred
  • Experience with ChemStation and MassHunter software preferred
  • NMR working experience a plus

YOUR TALENTS SHOULD INCLUDE:

  • The ability to prioritize daily tasks and meet the demands of multiple priorities with minimal supervision
  • Self-motivation, accountability, adaptability, and a positive attitude
  • The availability to work flexible schedules when required, especially during peak analytical seasons
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • The ability to handle client records and data according to strict privacy and confidentiality guidelines

Must be able to sit or stand for significant periods of time while performing a variety of tasks.

Must be able to perform repetitive hand motions such as capping and uncapping tubes or sample containers.

This position is open to non-smokers only due to sensitive sensory analyses performed in our laboratory.

BENEFITS

We provide:

  • A competitive salary, based on experience
  • A student loan repayment program
  • Comprehensive employer-paid health and vision insurance
  • 401k, FSA, and group life insurance
  • Support for productivity and continued learning through conference attendance, training courses, and learning materials

Company

ETS Laboratories has provided high quality analytical services to the global wine industry from our main laboratory in California's Napa Valley since 1978. We also maintain smaller regional laboratories in Monterey County CA, McMinnville OR, and Walla Walla WA with more to come. A strong commitment to data quality at ETS has accompanied our technical innovation and growth over the past 30 years. In 1997 ETS initiated a program to achieve full accreditation. ETS was awarded ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation by the Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) making it the first independent, domestic wine laboratory with ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation. The ETS client base includes wineries throughout the world. This is due, in part, to our scope of ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accredited services which is unequaled by any other wine industry laboratory worldwide. Today ETS is one of the most advanced wine analysis laboratories in the world. ETS enjoys close relationships with wine laboratories and Universities throughout the world. Collaboration with these partners provides ETS with a global view of wine industry problems and challenges while demonstrating our accuracy and reliability to the world wine markets.
