The University is seeking a full-time (nine-month) Chemistry Faculty Member, beginning in the Fall semester of 2020. Rank is open. Compensation is competitive among the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities.


Responsibilities may include:

  • Teach a variety of chemistry lecture / laboratory classes. Courses could include first-year chemistry, inorganic chemistry, quantitative chemistry, physical chemistry, instrumental analysis for undergraduate science majors
  • Adequately prepare all course materials and lessons
  • Provide each student with clear course expectations, evaluations and timelines through carefully written topical outlines and approved, standardized syllabi
  • Provide interesting and relevant assignments for students that demonstrate learning outcomes in a real-life setting
  • Design and administer examinations and other appropriate assessments
  • Report midterm and final grades in a timely manner
  • Respond to student questions in a timely manner
  • Identify and refer at-risk students to specific academic support services
  • Ensure that course and program learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the syllabus
  • Academically advise students
  • Supporting departmental efforts for continued improvement of programs
  • Serving the university through faculty committee participation

Qualifications:
Interview preference will be given to candidates who possess the following:

  • An Evangelical Christian confession of faith and experience is required (Statement of Faith required at application) Membership in the Church of the Nazarene preferred
  • A graduate degree in Chemistry is required. An earned Ph.D. in Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, or Physical Chemistry is preferred
  • Post-doctoral research experience preferred
  • A demonstrable track record of successful teaching or significant professional experience related to Chemistry
  • Strong presentation skills, and commitment to quality classroom instruction and student learning
  • Engaging classroom style and appreciation of successful instructional approaches for a range of academic abilities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and proven ability to work collaboratively with others
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs
