About this Job:

Syngenta is seeking a residue scientist to work within our North America Human Safety Team. The person hired into this position will be responsible for designing and monitoring crop residue studies conducted under Good Laboratory Practice Standards in support of product registration and stewardship activities. This person will define and develop the technical requirements for field and livestock residue studies while working with study directors and principal investigators at external contract research organizations (CROs) to deliver studies to project timelines. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing, interpreting, and effectively communicating the results to stakeholders. This role requires the development of effective working relationships across Syngenta and with external CROs. This position is best suited to an energetic team-player who can manage multiple on-going projects and prioritize work responsibilities effectively to meet business needs. Opportunities exist to represent the Syngenta Human Safety through participation in regional and global projects, professional organizations, and at regulatory agency meetings. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide input to development of residue science plans through active participation on cross-functional and multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Manage studies placed with external suppliers to ensure delivery of data and reports to time, quality, and cost
  • Prepare and present technical positions to key internal stakeholders to inform project and business decisions

Education and Experience:       

  • A Ph.D. in a relevant field is preferred, but applicants with B.S. or M.S. degrees and commensurate experience will be considered; relevant fields of study include agronomy, horticulture, entomology/nematology, weed science, plant pathology, analytical chemistry and other related fields
  • Experience in agricultural product development or a strong analytical/residue chemistry background is preferred 
  • Experience as a study director or study monitor of GLP studies, along with electronic field notebooks and electronic databases, is highly desirable
  • The ideal candidate will have prior knowledge of regulatory residue study guidelines, agronomic practices, residue or analytical chemistry, maximum residue limits and/or import tolerances

  • Excellent technical writing ability with strong verbal communication and presentation skills
  • High level of attention to detail and a strong capacity for problem solving and data interpretation

  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills to gain commitment from both internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritize work effectively
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply new skills

Additional Information

  • Travel Requirements: some domestic and rarely international travel required (≤ 10%)
  • All applicants must be eligible to work in the US or Canada
