The Chemistry Department of Wesleyan University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chemistry in the area of polymer chemistry starting July 1, 2021. All areas of modern organic or biomacromolecular chemistry will be considered, although a research program that includes the synthesis of polymers or other macromolecular materials is preferred. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in chemistry or a related field in hand at the time of application. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vibrant, externally funded research program involving both graduate and undergraduate researchers. Candidates should also demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Preference will be given to candidates capable of teaching in the undergraduate organic chemistry curriculum. Candidates who have demonstrated success in working with diverse populations and whose research would contribute to Wesleyan’s interdisciplinary programs are especially encouraged to apply. Additional duties include advising and mentoring students and participating in faculty governance at the departmental and university level. Wesleyan is a highly selective liberal arts college that values both scholarship and teaching very highly; has an engaged and diverse student body; and offers competitive salaries, start-up funds, and benefits as well as a generous sabbatical program.
Candidates must apply at http://Careers.wesleyan.edu/postings/7385 by submitting a curriculum vitae, a description of research plans, a statement of teaching philosophy, and the email addresses of three referees who will be contacted for confidential letters of recommendation. As part of the teaching statement or cover letter, we invite you to describe your cultural competencies and experiences engaging a diverse student body. Applications received by September 1st will receive full consideration.
