Job Details
The University of Richmond Department of Chemistry invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in Organic Chemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in the 2021-22 academic year. The individual we seek will be a highly effective teacher and will be expected to establish and maintain an active, externally funded research program involving undergraduates. A Ph.D. is required and post-doctoral training is strongly preferred. The University of Richmond is a highly selective, private, primarily undergraduate institution offering ACS-certified degrees. The Chemistry Department graduates more than 45 chemistry and BMB (biochemistry and molecular biology) majors each year and is staffed with faculty who are committed teachers and active research scientists. Our excellent support staff, instrumentation, and modern facilities are conducive to the support of high-level teaching and research activity.
The University of Richmond is a private university located just a short drive from downtown Richmond, Virginia. Through its five schools and wide array of campus programming, the University combines the best qualities of a small liberal arts college and a large university. With nearly 4,000 students, an 8:1 student-faculty ratio, and more than 90% of traditional undergraduate students living on campus, the University is remarkably student-centered, focused on preparing students “to live lives of purpose, thoughtful inquiry, and responsible leadership in a global and pluralistic society.”
The University of Richmond is committed to developing a diverse workforce and student body, and to modeling an inclusive campus community which values the expression of difference in ways that promote excellence in teaching, learning, personal development, and institutional success. Our academic community strongly encourages applications that are in keeping with this commitment. For more information on the School of Arts and Sciences and University’s commitment to inclusive excellence, see https://president.richmond.edu/inclusive-excellence/index.html and https://as.richmond.edu/.
Applicants should click "Apply Now" at the top of the page and submit a curriculum vitae, a cover letter, a statement describing the applicant’s research agenda, and a teaching statement. An involvement in and commitment to mentoring a diverse and inclusive community of undergraduate students, both in the classroom and in the research laboratory, should be evident throughout the teaching statement and research plan. In addition, please include copies of academic transcripts. Candidates for this position may be asked, at a later date, to provide the names and contact information for three references who will be asked to submit letters of recommendation. Review of applications will commence October 30, 2020 and continue until the position is filled. For more information on the department and its programs, see http://chemistry.richmond.edu. Questions about the search should be addressed to wdowney@richmond.edu.
