The Chemistry Department at Rhodes College invites applications for a tenure-track position to begin August of 2021. Rhodes College believes that diversity and inclusion are critical to our success as an institution, and we seek to recruit, develop, and retain the most talented people from a diverse candidate pool. Furthermore, Rhodes College is committed to supporting the work-life balance of its faculty. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field and will demonstrate the ability to teach a contemporary Physical Chemistry lecture course and an accompanying laboratory course.  The successful candidate must exhibit a firm commitment to teaching and scholarship at a liberal arts college and will be expected to maintain an active research program involving undergraduate students.  Applications are welcome from candidates whose research is in any sub-discipline of chemistry or in interdisciplinary areas including but not limited to computational chemistry, environmental chemistry, and materials science.  Research will be supported by start-up funds and lab space.  Possibilities for additional research support include internal summer research grants for faculty, fellowships for student researchers, and travel funds for faculty and students.  Collaborative research and teaching opportunities exist with interdisciplinary programs, including Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Environmental Studies & Sciences, and Neuroscience.  Teaching responsibilities will include five courses per year; two of which will be Physical Chemistry and Physical Chemistry Laboratory.  Other opportunities to teach in the curriculum include introductory chemistry, senior capstone in the candidate’s area of specialization, and other courses that align with the candidate’s training.
