Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in science and engineering on behalf of national security. The Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT) and the Bioenergy and Biome Science (B-11) groups are seeking candidates for a postdoctoral position to exploit new imaging methods using entangled photon pairs to monitor plant vitality and health. This is a large, multidisciplinary project involving experts in time-resolved imaging, quantum optics and plant biology. Expected job duties for this position involve conventional biochemical and biological methods of monitoring water content and biomass accumulation in plants and the ability to exploit new label-free imaging methods on an in-house microscope being developed by other members of this cross-disciplinary team.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Biology, Chemistry, Plant Science or a related field earned within the last five years
  • Outstanding scientific achievement as demonstrated through publications and presentations
  • Proficiency in data analysis methods
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with plant biology, anatomy and physiology
  • Experience with quantitative microscopy
  • Experience writing software to analyze experimental data
  • Experience with infra-red or Raman spectroscopy techniques
  • Experience with microfluidics
