The Carnegie Institution for Science invites broad-ranging applications for postdoctoral fellowships at the Earth and Planets Laboratory in Washington, DC.  Carnegie Science emphasizes multidisciplinary experimental and computational research in the physics and chemistry of materials under extreme conditions in addition to comprehensive programs in the earth and planetary sciences.

Successful applicants will lead independent scientific programs following Carnegie’s mission “to encourage, in the broadest and most liberal manner, investigation, research, and discovery and the application of knowledge to the improvement of mankind.” The applicant’s primary field of research should overlap with current research areas on campus, which are available at http://epl.carnegiescience.edu/.

Carnegie Postdoctoral Fellowships are awarded annually. The Fellowship is initially for one year, but can be renewed for up to a total of 3 years for astronomy applicants and 2 years for other fields. Start dates for the next appointments are between July 1 and December 31, 2021.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in a relevant field at the time of the start of the fellowship. The principal selection criteria will be outstanding research accomplishments, promise of future achievement, and relevance to the ongoing scientific pursuits. Carnegie Fellowship applications must include a curriculum vitae, brief description of previous research, a future research proposal of no more than four pages, a list of publications and up to three letters of reference by those familiar with your work. You are encouraged to contact staff members regarding the suitability of your proposal.

The Carnegie Institution is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment and will not be discriminated against on the basis of gender, race/ethnicity, protected veteran status, disability, or other protected group status.

Applications must be submitted online at https://jobs.carnegiescience.edu/jobs/2021-carnegie-fellowships-for-the-earth-and-planets-laboratory/ by 30 November 2020.
