Chemistry and Biochemistry: Assistant Teaching Professor (Open until filled; initial review 11/10/2020)

The https://www.chemistry.ucsc.edu/ at the University of California (UC), Santa Cruz invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor. The primary focus of this position is teaching and professional activities for first-year general chemistry. The successful candidate should be a skilled instructor who possesses innovative ideas for instructional initiatives and has familiarity with existing learning assessment methodologies and pedagogies. As a member of the Academic Senate, the successful candidate will be an important resource for undergraduate curriculum development and will participate in university and departmental committees as needed for effective teaching and laboratory safety enforcement. The successful candidate will demonstrate a clear commitment to understanding issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion, as well as best practices for ensuring all students in a diverse community are being supported, have excellent teaching ability and will collaborate with faculty, coordinate with academic support groups, pursue education research and/or knowledge development in chemistry and closely related fields, provide coordination for evidence-based teaching methods and be a resource for innovative teaching practices. The successful candidate must demonstrate professional achievement and intellectual leadership through publication, creative accomplishments, or other professional activity.

ACADEMIC TITLE
Assistant Teaching Professor (Lecturer with Potential for Security of Employment)
The Assistant Teaching Professor title confers the rights and responsibilities of membership in the Academic Senate, and has the payroll title “Lecturer with Potential for Security of Employment” (LPSOE). An LPSOE is eligible for promotion to ``Security of Employment'', which is analogous to tenure.

SALARY
Commensurate with qualifications and experience; academic year (nine-month basis).

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. (or equivalent foreign degree) in Chemistry, Biochemistry or a related field; record of teaching; record of professional achievement and activity. It is expected that the degree requirement will be completed by June 30, 2021.

POSITION AVAILABLE
Contingent on budgetary authorization, July 1, 2021, with the academic year beginning in September 2021. Degree requirements must be met by June 30, 2021 for employment effective July 1, 2021.
