Job Details
Western Carolina University (WCU), one of the 17 campuses of the University of North Carolina system, invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Chemistry and Physics, starting August 1, 2021. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until a candidate has been selected for hire.
The successful applicant is expected to develop, revise, and teach courses in the general chemistry curriculum as well as upper-level courses within the applicant’s field, at both the undergraduate and Master’s level. The successful applicant is also expected to develop and maintain an active research program that attracts extramural funding and actively engages undergraduate and Master’s students within the chemistry program. Applicants whose research may attract not only chemistry students but also researchers from related disciplines such as biology and forensic science are encouraged to apply.
WCU embraces its role as a regionally engaged university and is designated by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a community engaged university. Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate a commitment to public engagement through their teaching, service, and scholarship.
While applicants with any chemistry specialization are encouraged to apply, candidates whose teaching and research interests support the analytical or biochemistry disciplines are preferred. Of particular interest are candidates whose research agendas are at the interface of chemistry subdisciplines, such as biophysical, bioanalytical, biotechnology, and environmental chemistry. Applicants that can integrate both computational and bench chemistry into their teaching and research programs are strongly encouraged to apply.
The minimum educational/professional requirement for the position is a Ph.D. in chemistry or a closely related field.
Although post-doctoral or other professional experience beyond the Ph.D. is welcome, ABD candidates are also encouraged to apply.
