The Department of Natural Sciences in the School of Agricultural and Natural Sciences (SANS) at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), invites applicants to apply for full-time, nine month, one year temporary position beginning January 1, 2021. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. 

UMES is located on the scenic Eastern Shore of Maryland in Princess Anne, MD, located 11 miles south of Salisbury, the county seat. UMES is an HBCU serving a diverse student body of 2100 undergraduate and 400 graduate students. The Department of Natural Sciences provides programs in chemistry (ACS-accredited), biochemistry, biology, marine, estuarine, and environmental science, and toxicology.

Responsibilities: Teach three courses each semester, including undergraduate courses in Quantitative Analysis, Instrumental Analysis, Principles of Chemistry; and elective /graduate courses as appropriate; participate in departmental activities including safety training; and serve on committees where appropriate as well as general support of the Chemistry Program curriculum. Performs other duties as assigned.

 Qualifications: Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry or closely related discipline. Candidates should have strong quantitative skills. Pedagogical training can be provided to support the candidate’s teaching effectiveness. Previous teaching experience preferred and experience with chemistry instrumentation is highly desired. Candidates must have excellent communication skills to include written communication skills; and be highly collaborative. Must be able to motivate and inspire a diverse body of students to be academically and personally successful.
