The Department of Chemistry, Biology, and Health Sciences (CBHS) at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology invites applications for a full-time, benefited, 9-month tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level in Biochemistry (broadly defined).  The desired start date is Fall 2021.  Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in Chemistry, or Biology, or closely related discipline at the time of the appointment and must demonstrate potential to develop and maintain an externally funded research program.  Candidates with research areas that complement those of the current faculty and build on the strengths of the department and interdisciplinary graduate programs are encouraged to apply.  The successful candidates must have a strong commitment to excellence in instruction and will be expected to teach Biochemistry and advanced elective courses in their area of expertise.  Previous teaching experience is desired.

The CBHS Department offers an ACS-certified undergraduate degree in Chemistry, an undergraduate degree in Biology, and an undergraduate degree in Pre-professional Health Sciences.  Faculty in the department can participate in several multidisciplinary graduate programs (including Biomedical Engineering, Materials Engineering and Science, Nanoscience and Nanoengineering, and Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences) and collaborate with the externally or state funded Research Centers on campus.  Research areas currently being pursued by CBHS faculty include sustainable chemistry, biochemistry/biotechnology, materials chemistry, environmental science, epidemiology, and deep underground science.
