The Kenneth and Celia Carlile Chair in Materials Science

The Mearse Chair in Biological and Biomedical Engineering

The School of Engineering and Computer Science at Baylor University is seeking to fill two newly established endowed faculty positions. The Mearse Chair was established to support and build the broad area of Biological or Biomedical Engineering with emphasis on Biomaterials. The Carlile Chair was established to enhance the expanding research capabilities of the University in the board area of Materials Science and Engineering. These positions are expected to contribute to the growing research enterprise at Baylor University in the strategic areas of Materials Science, Health, and Human Flourishing and as identified in the Illuminate vision document (https://www.baylor.edu/illuminate/). Successful candidates are expected to maintain a highly active and internationally recognized research program, engaging in sponsored research, teaching, mentoring and training of graduate students, collaborating with other faculty and colleagues in new research projects, and establishing strong ties with the Baylor community.  While the tenure home of the holder of either chair will be in one of the departments within the School of Engineering and Computer Science, joint appointments across disciplinary boundaries are encouraged.  Applicants must have a Ph.D. in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, material science or a related field and have a demonstrated record of accomplishments that include sustained research funding, internationally recognized scholarship, and outstanding teaching commensurate with the rank of full professor with tenure.  The successful candidates are expected to help increase research activity, promote the formation of new degree programs, and maintain teaching excellence. The position will begin as early as August 2021 at the Full Professor level. Highly competitive startup packages will accompany the position. Because of Baylor’s strong Christian mission, the successful applicant must have an active Christian faith.

In the School of Engineering and Computer Science, Baylor offers PhD programs in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Computer Science. The School has state-of-the-art research facilities in the Baylor Research and Innovation Collaborative (https://www.baylor.edu/bric/), a newly developed, modern research facility designed to foster scientific and technological innovation.  The College of Arts and Science includes 12 programs in the Sciences housed in the Baylor Science Building   (https://www.baylor.edu/bsb/) that includes multiple core and service facilities with over 150 laboratories.
