The Department of Chemistry invites applications for a 5-year term position as Head and a full-time tenured position at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor, commencing July 1, 2021, or on a date mutually agreed upon. The Department seeks an established scholar with a commitment to excellence in teaching, research and academic leadership.  Outstanding candidates in any area of chemistry will be considered. The department has particular strengths in environmental analytical chemistry, materials chemistry and chemical biology including synthetic biology and structural biology.  The successful candidate will have a track record of high quality scholarly research leading to peer assessed publications, will have established an independent, innovative, scholarly, externally fundable research program, will have demonstrated strong and outstanding teaching contributions, will have  demonstrated strong administrative, leadership and management skills, and will exhibit evidence of the ability to work in a collaborative environment. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The Department currently has 18 full time tenured and tenure track faculty members and 7 Instructors, and offers Canadian Society for Chemistry-accredited Honours, Major and Cooperative programs in Chemistry and Biochemisty with Focus Areas in Bioanalytical, Biopharmaceutical, Biophysical, Environmental, Inorganic, Materials Science, Organic, Physical and Quantum/Computational Chemistry. The Department also offers MSc and PhD degrees in all of the major sub-disciplines of Chemistry including Analytical, Biochemistry, Inorganic, Organic, Materials Science, Physical and Quantum Theoretical Chemistry.   The Department has a well-established and equipped research facility, including a Cryo-Transmission Electron Microscope, X-ray diffractometers for proteins and small molecules, 4 Liquid and solid-state NMR Spectrometers, an Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometer and a Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization Mass Spectrometer among others, and is supported by strong research links with other University of Manitoba departments including Microbiology, Physics and Astronomy, Biological Sciences, Civil Engineering.  Further information about the Department can be obtained from https://sci.umanitoba.ca/chemistry/.  Winnipeg is the largest city in the Province of Manitoba.
