The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Southwestern University seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chemistry specializing in biochemistry to begin in August 2021. Southwestern University is a selective liberal arts institution with an innovative American Chemical Society (ACS) certified program and new state-of-the-art facilities for scientific teaching and research. Excellence in teaching is the central criterion for faculty evaluation at Southwestern, and the typical teaching load is 3-2, totaling five courses per academic year. Teaching responsibilities for this position include upper-level biochemistry courses (lecture and lab) along with general chemistry, chemistry for non-majors, and courses within the university’s general education program. The successful candidate must be committed to undergraduate teaching and demonstrate a dedication to inclusiveness and fostering the success of racially and economically diverse student populations in both the classroom and laboratory.

Faculty are also expected to maintain a research program that results in peer-reviewed professional achievement and significantly incorporates undergraduate students. All research areas will be considered for this position but particular consideration will be given to candidates whose research explores questions within the realm of biochemistry and complements current research within the chemistry department.

The successful candidate will also be expected to actively contribute to university and departmental service, participate in academic advising and retention initiatives, and exhibit a dedication to equity and inclusiveness.
