VISITING ASSISTANT PROFESSORS (2), CHEMISTRY/BIOCHEMISTRY, ROANOKE COLLEGE - Applications are invited for two visiting faculty appointments starting August 2021. The positions are an initial one-year appointment with two additional one-year re-appointments possible, conditional on performance and the needs of the College. This is a full-time position with benefits. A Ph. D. in any field of chemistry or biochemistry is required (by August 2021). Teaching duties will include general chemistry and/or non-majors chemistry, both lecture and lab. Additional opportunities may include organic chemistry lecture and lab and/or biochemistry lab depending on the candidate’s expertise. The teaching load at Roanoke is a total of seven sections across two semesters. (Lecture sections and lab sections are counted equally.) Excellent teaching and a commitment to liberal learning are expected. Research with undergraduates is possible but not required. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

A separate contract to teach organic chemistry during the summer session may also be available.

The Chemistry Department offers degrees in Chemistry and Biochemistry and averages about 12 graduates per year. Our program is ACS-approved. Our facilities are well equipped with modern instrumentation, including 400 MHz NMR, IR, AA, HPLC, and GC-MS. We emphasize the use of this instrumentation in courses at all levels, starting with General Chemistry. We have 7.5 tenure track faculty members and 1 permanent non tenure track faculty member.
