Research Scientist

Position Description:

Responsible for ongoing development and management of research and teaching activities of the Mass Spectrometry Facility and the Instrumentation Center. Leads the expansion and enhancement of instrumentation infrastructure. Supports and promotes CSU’s research, grant application and teaching capabilities by providing technical expertise, advice and ideas for development and implementation of research, experimental design, and instrumental and data analysis. Promotes collaboration between CSU and other academic and medical institutions in research and grant applications. Interacts professionally with all internal and external customers using strong interpersonal skills.

Minimum Qualifications               

M.S. or Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, or equivalent; extensive experience in operation and maintenance of mass spectrometers; experience in management and maintenance of other major chemistry instrumentation. Expertise in some of the following chemistry instrumentation: LC-MS, GC-MS, HPLC, FTIR, UV-Vis, Fluorimeter, ICP, and NMR, etc. Solid background and training in analytical and bioanalytical method development; demonstrated skills in troubleshooting/repair of instrumentation; excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications                

Ph.D. in analytical chemistry or related field. Strong computer and network skills. Relevant publications in peer-reviewed journals. Strong initiative and problem-solving ability. Proven ability for effective training and supervising instrument users. Experience in writing proposals for funding research projects and instrumentation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)   

Demonstrated skills in troubleshooting/repair of instrumentation. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Strong initiative and problem-solving capability.
