A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences at the University of Alberta in the laboratory of Prof. David Bressler. Dr. Bressler’s group has developed and patented the Lipid-to-Hydrocarbon (LTH) technology that converts a wide range of lipid feedstocks into platform chemicals and solvents, as well as drop-in naphtha (gasoline) and distillate (diesel) fuels. The LTH technology has been scaled and proven in the pilot and demonstration with the first commercial plant currently being built by our industry and commercialization partner, Forge Hydrocarbons Corp. (www.forgehc.com). The current project seeks to develop and scale two technology pathways to produce drop-in biojet fuels as part of the LTH technology (https://bresslerlab.ualberta.ca/)
Applicants should have expertise in the field of reaction kinetics, thermochemical and thermo-catalytic reactions, and hold a PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, or related fields. Applicants should also be familiar with analytical techniques such as gas and liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, etc. as well as knowledge of fuel property characterization and testing using ASTM, CGSB, and other industry approved standards. Knowledge and experience in process modeling and scale up will be an asset. Successful candidates would be expected to start their appointment immediately. Health coverage is included according to the University of Alberta Postdoctoral Fellows Supplemental Health Plan (http://www.postdoc.ualberta.ca/en/HealthCoverage.aspx). Applicants are encouraged to submit their curriculum vitae and cover letter to Dr. David Bressler (dbressle@ualberta.ca).
