The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Oberlin College invites applications for a full-time non-continuing faculty position in the College of Arts and Sciences. Appointment to this position will be for a term of one year, beginning Fall semester of 2021, and will carry the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor, in the area of Bioorganic Chemistry.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry has about 25 majors in each graduating class. The department is well equipped for teaching and research. Instrumentation includes 400-MHz and 600-MHz multinuclear FT-NMR spectrometers, x-ray powder diffractometer, thermal analysis (TGA/DTA and DSC), FT-Raman/IR, FT-IR, atomic absorption, and UV-Vis-NIR spectrometers as well as chromatographic (GC, GC-MS, LC, LC-MS), and biochemical instrumentation. The incumbent will teach a total of five courses in the general area of bioorganic and general chemistry, including Bioorganic Chemistry (second semester organic chemistry with a biological emphasis; lecture and lab), Environmental Chemistry (non-majors level) and/or General Chemistry (majors level). The position will also include lab section(s) of organic or general chemistry. The incumbent may, as desired, supervise undergraduate students in research. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry will be undergoing a review process in conjunction with the HHMI Inclusive Excellence grant, and the incumbent will have the opportunity to participate in related activities.

Among the qualifications required for appointment is the Ph.D. degree (in hand or expected by first semester of academic year 2021. Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience at the college level is desirable.
