Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Chemistry

 

The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the University of New Haven invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in chemistry to begin August 2021. The Department consists of twelve full-time faculty (ten chemists and two chemical engineers). The B.S. Chemistry program offers an ACS certified degree. The M.S. Chemistry program was launched in fall 2019.

 

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate organic chemistry (sophomore and upper level), courses in the drug discovery focus area of the M.S. Chemistry program and, potentially, courses in the new B.S. Biochemistry program that Chemistry and Biology jointly administer.

 

The candidate will be expected to develop a research program that engages students, to publish in respected journals, and to seek external grant funding. The candidate will be expected to work with bachelors and masters level students and may choose to support doctoral students for a PhD in Engineering and Applied Science.

 

The candidates will be expected to participate in institutional and professional service. Supplemental responsibilities might include advising students, contributing to assessment activities or assuming course or programmatic leadership roles.

 

Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate in Chemistry or a closely related field.
  • Commitment to teaching excellence and with the appropriate background to teach upper level undergraduate and graduate level courses.
  • Expertise in green, organometallic or bioorganic chemistry.
  • Excellent interpersonal and English communication skills.
  • Record of scholarly accomplishment and the potential to build an externally funded, student-centered research program.
  • Commitment to collegiality and teamwork.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Postdoctoral and prior teaching experience will be considered favorably.
