This position is responsible for new product development and maintenance of business in Aerospace team.  



• Leads new product development/commercialization projects through collaboration, planning, executing, and analysis of experiments with clear and accurate results.  Activities includes:

o Communication/collaboration with other Divisions/functions within Sherwin Williams and with external companies for new technology scouting  

o Formulation development, modification and testing of new coating systems

o Manufacturing support of new product scale-up

o Technical support for application/fabrication trials at customer sites

o Communication of results and conclusions, written and/or verbal, to Technical, Marketing, Sales and external customers as necessary

• Comprehends AMS (Aerospace Materials Specification) and Aerospace OEM specifications and conduct spray-outs and specification testing to acquire QPL certification.

• Interacts with internal and external customers and finds solutions to complex technical problems (product/process).  

• Demonstrates significant knowledge and use of chemicals, raw materials, substrates, application equipment and testing equipment.

• Works within a team environment and provide support to other team member on projects and team needs.  

• Performs daily tasks following Sherwin Williams PCG quality system guideline.

• Works safely and maintains a safely working environment.  Maintains and operates a variety of laboratory equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

• Performs other duties as assigned.




a) Required:

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Science AND two semesters of general and organic Chemistry each. 


b) Preferred:  

• Master Degree or higher in a Polymer Science related area 



a. Required:

• 3 years in coating specific industry experience

• 5 years of lab experience working with products and technologies including but not limited to, 2K Epoxy/urethane products/technology 

b. Preferred:

• 5-7 years automotive/Aerospace coating experience



• Must be able to sit, stand, hear, and see on a constant basis.

• Must be able to walk, write, and type on a frequent basis. 

• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. 

• Must be able to climb and descend stairs. 

• Must be able to bend, carry, reach, push, and pull on an occasional basis.

• Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing. 

• May work in areas where toxic, flammable, and hazardous materials are present. 

• May be exposed to varying amounts of dust and dirt. 

• Work surfaces may include concrete. 

• Employee must be able to tolerate non-toxic paint odors and be able to wear a respirator as required. 

• Employee must be able to operate a computer and communicate via telephone. 

• May work in areas where noise level is such that hearing protection is required.  

• Some travel to other locations, meetings and/or seminars is required.



a. Required:

• Proven track record of successful new product development, scale up and commercialization.

• Industry experience, preferably in development, formulation and testing of polymer based coating systems. 

• Excellent project planning, prioritizing and executing capability.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to develop and present detailed complex presentations to upper management and customers.

• Strong project leadership capabilities requiring minimal direct supervision.

• Highly motivated with proven ability to work well in a team environment.

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills 

b.  Preferred:

• In-depth understanding of coating formulation and polymer structure-property relationship.

• Waterborne coating formulation

• DOE and DFSS


5. TRAVEL: 15%




Basic Qualifications:
