The Department of Chemistry invites applications for full-time appointment as Associate Professor / Assistant Professor. Applicants should have a PhD degree in chemistry. All research areas, including analytical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry and physical chemistry will be considered.

The appointees will (a) teach undergraduate and postgraduate chemistry courses including advanced courses in his/her specialty; (b) conduct/supervise undergraduate chemistry laboratory classes; (c) capitalize on the well-established infrastructure in the Department for independent research in his/her field of expertise; (d) serve as research supervisor of postgraduate students enrolled in MPhil/PhD programmes; and (e) participate in the administration of the Department.

The Department is prepared to provide the appointees with a suitable start-up fund and free quota of postgraduate students for his/her research. Opportunities are available in Hong Kong for annual application of research funding on a competitive basis.

The appointment rank will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Appointments will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially, which, subject to mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointment or substantiation later.

Salary will be highly competitive and is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package, including medical care, plus a 15% contract-end gratuity for an appointment of two years or longer. Annual salary ranges from HK$877,860 to HK$1,105,440 for Assistant Professor, and HK$1,105,440 to HK$1,409,880 (US$1 = HK$7.8) for Associate Professor. The terms mentioned herein are for reference only and are subject to revision by the University.
