Sasol has an opening for a Scientist in the Process Research team. This position will report through the Research and Development Department located at the Lake Charles Chemical Complex. Below are some details of the position requirements.

Key Accountabilities:

• Responsible for successfully executing research projects to achieve research objectives for senior researchers and key project teams
• Acknowledged as a technical resource within group and frequently consulted on the feasibility of technical proposals
• Guiding 1-2 laboratory chemists in planning experimental work supporting process development or process improvements
• Demonstrates feasibility of technical solutions to key problems/issues within R&D and supported plants
• Generates new ideas to identify unexplored key technology areas for developing intellectual property
• Proposes and demonstrates optimization opportunities for plant processes
• Maintains an effective network with key stakeholders such as technical peers extending to all global sites and manufacturing unit personnel
• Initiates and leads key projects dedicated to revenue and cost improvement of the business

Formal Education:

• PhD in Chemistry.  PhD in Organic Chemistry preferred
• 2+ Years relevant Industrial experience preferred

Working Experience

• Industry experience in plant operations and troubleshooting preferred
• Strong ability in organic synthesis, including scale-up, preferred
• Experience with high pressure equipment such as reactors and autoclaves preferred
• Ability to effectively recognize complex relationships and interdependencies in plant processes preferred
