In partnership with the community and industry, INRS is proud to contribute to societal development through its discoveries, and to contribute to the training of a new generation of high-level scientists in fields such as science and engineering, social sciences, and health sciences.

The Centre Eau Terre Environnement within INRS (INRS-ETE) is welcoming applications to fill a faculty position in the field of environmental analytical chemistry. This position is part of the development plan of INRS-ETE in order to increase its research capacity, and is in line with its most recent scientific program. The Centre benefits from an imposing research infrastructure including state-of-the-art instruments and field equipment. As part of his/her activities, the person to be hired must establish his/her own research program and obtain external funding (grants, contracts) and must be competitive and innovative in his/her research devoted to environmental analytical chemistry. The Centre offers a work environment favoring interdisciplinary research and collaboration. The new faculty will have the opportunity to interact with colleagues from different fields including limnology, environmental geochemistry, ecotoxicology, as well as soil and water decontamination. He/she will contribute to improve the analytical capacity of the Center and to favor the emergence of interdisciplinary team projects.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The development of analytical methods for the detection of contaminants of emerging interest in diverse biotic and abiotic matrices;
  • The monitoring of biodegradation, metabolization and biotransformation of organic contaminants in natural environments, drinking water, or industrial wastes;
  • The development of analytical tools to be used within projects pertaining to ecosystem restoration, environmental metabolomics, or paleolimnology;
  • The development of stable isotope analytical tools and methods for monitoring contaminants and their degradation.
  • To secure funding for his/her research activities through external grants from public and/or private organizations;
  • To participate in teaching and training activities, notably within the graduate (MSc and PhD) programs of the Center, and by supervising students and research personnel;
  • To contribute to INRS’s national and international scientific standing.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A PhD degree in a relevant field;
  • A relevant postdoctoral experience, or a research experience in the industry or in the government;
  • Evidence of a strong collaborative potential, and complementarity with other faculty members at the Center, in a multidisciplinary perspective;
  • A scientific production that shows autonomy;
  • An excellent potential to conduct original, productive research that will contribute to the training of graduate students, in order to earn international recognition as a leader in his/her field within the next 5 to 10 years ;
  • An ability to supervise MSc and PhD students, postdocs, and research personnel ;
  • An entrepreneurship spirit to secure funds for his/her research. Current grants or contracts will be considered an asset.
