Assistant Director – Preclinical Pharmacology Core for Accelerated Drug Discovery at The University of Texas at San Antonio

 

The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) and the Center for Innovative Drug Discovery (CIDD) is currently seeking an experienced PhD-level scientist to serve as Assistant Director of the newly formed Preclinical Pharmacology Core for Accelerated Drug Discovery. In this role, you will have the opportunity to drive strategy and provide leadership in ADME/DMPK translational science across our diverse portfolio of current drug discovery programs within the CIDD. The position will be responsible for building a new ADME/PK core facility, establishing equipment and resources, hiring staff and establishing a robust service-oriented ADME screening platform.  Your day-to-day role is to provide scientific support and guidance using various in vitro and in vivo assays to assess metabolism, permeability, CYP450 interactions and PK/PD/efficacy of early-stage small molecule preclinical candidates. You will also work closely with the CIDD Medicinal Chemistry Core Facility at UTSA and the CIDD High-Throughput Screening (HTSF) Core Facility at UT Health San Antonio to dramatically accelerate drug discovery timelines across multiple therapeutic areas including cancer, infectious diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, chronic pain and diabetes.

Required Qualifications:

 • Ph.D. in Biological/Enzymology, Pharmaceutical Sciences/Chemistry or related field with at least 5 years of relevant ADME/DMPK pharma/biotech industry experience. 

• A track record of strategic scientific leadership in the in vitro/in vivo ADME/DMPK field.

• Demonstrated experience in managing, coaching and developing scientific personnel.

• Excellent scientific communication skills as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications, technical reports and speaking engagements.

• A strong publication record demonstrating mastery and application of drug metabolism and ADME principles.

• Expertise with LC/MS/MS techniques for API quantification and metabolite structural ID analyses. 

• Familiarity working with drug discovery and development project teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 10-15 years of relevant ADME/DMPK pharma/biotech industry experience.

• Experience in writing and reviewing in vitro reports for regulatory filings.

• Experience mentoring both undergraduate, graduate students and/or interns.
