The Department of Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Florida invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at all ranks specializing in artificial intelligence-powered drug design, discovery and synthesis.

The tenure-track faculty in Artificial Intelligence in Medicinal Chemistry/Drug Discovery will develop and apply AI methods for medicinal chemistry and chemical biology, in multiple areas such as, drug lead design and optimization, chemical automatic synthesis planning and execution, chemical space, target space, druggability, natural products dereplication through deep data learning, molecular recognition, structure-activity relationship, DMPK analysis, molecular multi-objective/parametric (Pareto) optimization, etc. The faculty will interact and collaborate with current medicinal chemistry colleagues with complementary expertise, and with both fundamental AI researchers exploring methods and algorithms on the one hand, and biomedical researchers exploring molecular pharmacology and therapeutics on the other hand. Alternately, the position can be jointly appointed with other departments within College of Pharmacy, or with Computer Science, Statistics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering.

The candidate should have Ph.D. in computational chemistry/biology, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or related areas. Strong research knowledge and experience in machine learning, artificial intelligence or de novo design, chemoinformatics, deep learning libraries such as Pytorch or Tensorflow, etc are desired.

Successful applicants will join the University of Florida’s (UF) Artificial Intelligence (AI) Initiative (https://ai.ufl.edu) to advance the university’s reputation as a national and worldwide leader in the application of AI. This initiative is supported by a $70 million initial investment as well as the implementation of the most powerful AI supercomputer in higher education. To build on this unique infrastructure, UF is hiring 100 new faculty members, including an initial 17 faculty members in the UF health sciences. UF Health is the largest integrated academic health center in the country, with colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, Public Health and Health Professions and Veterinary Medicine, as well as the Malcom Randall Veterans Affairs Medical Center, with over 2,400 faculty.
