The Lab is primarily supported by the U.S. Department;of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Science. Brookhaven Science Associates (BSA) operates and manages the Laboratory for DOE. BSA is a partnership between Battelle and The Research Foundation for the State University of New York on behalf of Stony Brook University.

Organizational Overview

The detection of neutrino flux and study of neutrino oscillations and neutrino mass. Currently the Group (1) is in the collaboration of AIT-NE0 for remote detection of antineutrinos emitted from nuclear power reactors, using a Water Cerenkov or Water-based Liquid Scintillator Detector in a deep mine at the Boulby Underground Laboratory (UK), and (2) is a member of several collaborations to develop and build Metal-Loaded Liquid Scintillator detectors for multiple physics neutrino flavor research, such as THEIA, or dark matter, or other rare event physics.

Position Description

The Neutrino and Nuclear Chemistry group has an opening for a Research Associate. The candidate will be expected to take a leading role in the group activities including the design, characterization, and development of detector materials for reactor antineutrino detection (AIT-NE0) and opportunities to participate in the running and analysis of PROSPECT and LZ or other nuclear science research.  This position would be under the direction of Dr. Minfang Yeh with an initial term of two years.

Position Requirements

  • PhD in nuclear chemistry, separations chemistry, radiochemistry, nuclear physics, or particle physics.
  • Experience in a variety of experimental techniques such as nuclear detection methods, preparation and handling of radioactive samples, and scintillator separations and characterization of metal-organic complexes in organic and aqueous media.
