Job Details
The Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) is the largest medical school in the US and is annually ranked among the top medical schools in the US by US News & World Report. Please visit https://medicine.iu.edu for additional information about the Department of Medicine.
Applications are invited for post-doctoral research position in the laboratory of Dr. Samy Meroueh at the Indiana University School of Medicine, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Highly motivated candidates with training in biochemistry, bio-organic chemistry, chemical biology, or biophysical chemistry with a PhD degree are encouraged to apply. The project involves the use of fragment libraries to develop small-molecule covalent inhibitors of oncogene targets traditionally considered undruggable, such as members of the RAS GTPase superfamily, TEAD transcription factors, and the HPV E6 oncogene. Covalent fragments and derivatives are characterized using biochemical and biophysical methods that include but are not limited to mass spectrometry, fluorescence-based biochemical assays, surface plasmon resonance, and X-ray crystallography. Cell biological studies are carried out to confirm target engagement and selectivity. The projects are collaborative, multi-disciplinary, with excellent opportunities for training and scientific development. The laboratory is located within the main campus of the School of Medicine in the Van Nuys Medical Sciences building.
Indianapolis is the 12th largest city in the United States and is growing and thriving economically thanks to a strong corporate base anchored by the life sciences. Indiana is home to one of the largest concentrations of health sciences companies in the nation, which contribute over $44 billion annually to the local economy. As the nation’s largest medical school, IUSM is committed to being an institution that not only reflects the diversity of the learners we teach and the patient populations we serve, but also pursues the values of diversity, equity and inclusion that inform academic excellence. We desire candidates who enhance our representational diversity, as well as those whose work contributes to equitable and inclusive learning and working environments for our students, staff, and faculty. IUSM strives to take an anti-racist stance, regularly evaluating and updating its policies, procedures, and practices to confer equitable opportunities for contribution and advancement for all members of our community. We invite individuals who will join us in our mission to advance racial equity to transform health and well being for all throughout the state of Indiana.
Doctorate or Terminal Degree required. Candidates for the postdoctoral position should have a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in biochemistry, bio-organic chemistry, chemical biology, or biophysical chemistry.
