Full-time Lecturer in Chemistry - Physical and Inorganic Chemistry

The Opportunity

The Department of Chemistry invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in Chemistry. The proposed start date is November 15, 2021. The primary focus of this position will be the teaching of physical and inorganic chemistry lectures and labs at 2^nd and 3^rd year level. The majority of the teaching associated with this position will occur at SFU’s main campus in Burnaby, BC. We are searching for an individual with a passion for teaching and communicating chemistry to undergraduates and a colleague who displays an interest in the development of new materials, curricula, and teaching strategies for lectures and labs. The Department of Chemistry has a complement of 9 teaching-focused and 26 research-focused faculty. We have strong undergraduate and graduate programs, and a commitment to public outreach. Our research strengths are concentrated in the areas of materials science, medicinal chemistry, bioinorganic chemistry, chemical biology, and nuclear science. The Successful Candidate

The successful candidate will make a significant contribution to our undergraduate program in a variety of ways including: coordinating undergraduate labs, teaching lecture courses, training and mentoring teaching assistants, developing new components of lecture and lab courses, and participating in outreach activities. They will demonstrate willingness and openness to create an inclusive learning environment for a diverse student body. 

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in the areas of Physical and/or Inorganic Chemistry and will have demonstrated a commitment to teaching chemistry at the undergraduate level. At least two years of experience as a chemistry instructor at the postsecondary level with duties including curriculum design and supervision of teaching assistants is strongly preferred. The successful candidate will have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in teaching and communicating chemistry, and enthusiasm for new course and instructional laboratory development.
