A Ph.D. in Biochemistry or Chemistry, or the equivalent is required (or evidence of imminent completion). Prior teaching experience is desirable, with candidates demonstrating an interest in undergraduate teaching. Candidates who have experience with programs and pedagogical approaches that are especially effective in attracting and retaining women and students who are typically underrepresented in the discipline are especially encouraged to apply. The Department seeks to mentor visiting faculty to prepare them for a future tenure track position at a liberal arts college.
Kalamazoo College, home of the Arcus Center for Social Justice Leadership, is a highly selective, nationally known liberal arts college with 1450 motivated students, offering an integrated undergraduate experience that weaves a traditional liberal arts curriculum into domestic and international educational experiences (www.kzoo.edu). About 10% of Kalamazoo students major in Chemistry. Graduates of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry pursue graduate-level work in the discipline, studies in the health care field, or move directly into industrial positions.
