A postdoctoral position is available at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics in the laboratory of Dr. Sanjay Jain (www.sanjayjainlab.org). We are looking for a qualified and creative scientist with an interest in working in infectious diseases, to join a multidisciplinary group working in the cutting-edge area of exploring noninvasive molecular imaging.

Our lab research centers around the intersections of infection microbiology, characterization of the host's immune response, optimizing antibiotic treatments (PK/PD), and developing new PET-based imaging tools. This work is mostly funded by the National Institutes of Health (USA).

The successful candidate will participate in the synthesis, purification, and characterization of positron-emitting radiolabeled compounds. Isotopes include C-11, F-18, Cu-64, and Br-76 for radiolabeling small molecules and biologics. This work enables preclinical PET imaging related to infectious diseases. The position involves interacting with colleagues in related disciplines and close collaboration with members of the JHU chemistry community to drive scientific processes. The research will provide ample opportunity for publication.

The ideal candidate should have a strong background in synthetic chemistry and/or radiochemistry, relevant microbiology training, some experience in small animal work, and an interest in metabolism, biochemistry, and/or cell physiology.

Candidates with a strong background in modern synthetic organic chemistry and a desire to learn radiochemical synthesis techniques are encouraged to apply. Excellent oral and written communication skills are needed for documentation purposes and an ability to work and collaborate in a multi-discipline team setting is a must for this job. A qualified candidate is also expected to conduct literature searches and apply published knowledge to solve problems and should be capable of independent experimental design and manuscript preparation.

Interested candidates may apply by submitting their CV to sjain5@jhmi.edu
