The College of Wooster invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chemistry to begin August 2022. Core teaching responsibilities include inorganic chemistry and general chemistry, in addition to advising undergraduate research in our nationally recognized Senior Independent Study (I.S.) program.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. by the time of appointment and should demonstrate potential for or experience with (a) inclusive teaching practices and (b) developing a dynamic student-centered research program. We encourage applications from candidates with expertise in scientifically interdisciplinary fields. All interested individuals are encouraged to apply, particularly those from traditionally marginalized or minoritized groups in Chemistry.

The successful candidate will teach the equivalent of 5.5 courses per year, including Inorganic Chemistry and its associated laboratory course. A typical teaching schedule involves two courses each in the Fall and Spring semesters, in addition to lab instruction and I.S. supervision. The candidate will contribute regularly to the general chemistry curriculum, first-year seminar, and credited mentoring of undergraduate research projects as part of the College’s required Independent Study program.

The Department of Chemistry has a strong emphasis on collaborative and interdisciplinary learning and a thriving culture of mentored undergraduate research. The Department is housed in a recently renovated teaching and research space integrated with the life science facilities. It has a 400 MHz NMR spectrometer, a high-resolution quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometer, and eight full-time faculty members who mentor a total of 15-20 seniors per year, many of whom pursue advanced study and/or careers in chemistry. The College of Wooster enrolls a diverse student body (24% domestic students of color and 17% international students).  The Department is particularly interested in applicants who demonstrate a commitment to working within this diverse academic community.
