The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSEN), College of Engineering at Texas A&M University invites applications for an open-rank tenured, or tenure-track faculty position with a 9-month academic appointment, and the possibility of an additional summer appointment contingent upon need and availability of funds, with a projected start date of September 1, 2022.
We seek an individual with specific focus on multifunctional soft materials and biomaterials and who has demonstrated excellence in computational materials science from ab-initio to continuum methods and or an individual with experimental skills in nanomaterials characterization.
The successful applicant will be required to teach; advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students; develop an independent, externally funded research program; participate in all aspects of the department’s activities, and serve the profession.
Through effective collaboration across the discipline of engineering, the MSEN department has numerous opportunities for the development of laboratories and sponsorship of research activities. MSEN is a new and growing department with our first UG class graduating in May 2021. MSEN is an integral part of the TAMU College of Engineering with excellent interaction with faculty in other engineering programs to support large-scale college initiatives, as well as access to graduate students to assist in research activities. Created in 2013, the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Texas A&M began with five faculty and has grown to 20 faculty members in 2021. Ranked 14th by U.S. News & World Report for our graduate program in (Materials Science and Engineering at Public Institutions), the department is also ranked 23rd for all institutions for 2022. The department graduated the first class of undergraduates in 2021. With a graduate enrollment of about 200 and an undergraduate program totaling over 150 students, this department is rapidly developing a national reputation.
MSEN faculty have multidisciplinary backgrounds in and dynamic research programs across several disciplines, including polymer synthesis and processing, structure-property relationships, biomedical materials and devices, sensors, wearable electronics, and simulation, modeling, and artificial intelligence. As a new faculty member in our department, you will be an integral contributor to the growth of the interdisciplinary department, drive new directions, and build a distinctive environment of excellence in scholarship, teaching, and service.

Applicants must have an earned doctorate in materials science and engineering or a closely related engineering or soft matter or biomaterial science discipline.
