Job Details

The Department of Chemistry at Regis University in Denver, Colorado invites applications for a tenure-track position in Chemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor, with a start date of August 1, 2022. This position is part of a university initiative striving to increase the diversity of the faculty. All areas of specialization within chemistry are invited to apply. The ideal candidate will have teaching and research interests in a quantitative discipline of chemistry, with a preference for Analytical, Physical, and/or Biochemistry. Teaching responsibilities are based on departmental needs each year and can encompass both lecture and laboratory courses in General Chemistry, Introductory College Chemistry, Chemistry for the Health-Related Sciences, and upper-division departmental course offerings in the candidate’s area of expertise. Faculty are expected to teach in the Regis College Core curriculum, advise students, and participate in the academic governance of the department, college, and university. Additionally, faculty are expected to develop and maintain an active research program that involves undergraduate students.

We seek candidates whose research, teaching and/or service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to engagement and inclusion of culturally diverse audiences in higher education, and particularly in Chemistry.

About the Regis University Chemistry Department. The Department of Chemistry is part of Regis College, the traditional undergraduate liberal arts college of Regis University that serves approximately 2,000 undergraduate students. Our department is accredited by the ACS and offers ACS-accredited and standard B.S. degrees in both Chemistry and Biochemistry, as well as a Chemistry minor. We currently have seven tenure-track faculty, two full-time instructors, a laboratory manager, and approximately fifty majors. The department is equipped with research-grade instrumentation, including GC-MS, GC, stopped-flow spectrometer, fluorimeter, atomic absorbance spectrometer, cyclic voltammeter, ion-selective electrodes, FT-IR, HPLC, two 60 MHz NMR spectrometers, and multiple research and classroom UV-Vis instruments, as well as multiple platforms for computational chemistry and molecular modeling. The department also has a strong culture of mentoring and supporting undergraduate research, with multiple student presentations at regional and national conferences each year.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related field by the start date
  • Commitment to inclusive pedagogy and teaching excellence
  • Dedication to guiding undergraduate research in a dynamic liberal arts environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment and willingness to contribute to the College's strategic plan of inclusion
  • Demonstrated success mentoring students of color
  • Successful teaching experience in higher education, including the use of inclusive, active-learning-based pedagogies
  • Demonstrated success engaging undergraduates in research
