Position Summary:
The Instrumentation Specialist will be responsible for the efficient functioning of all departmental research and teaching instrumentation and equipment. The position will provide regular preventative maintenance, arrange for repair of equipment and instrumentation in the Department, supervise and train faculty, students, and others on the proper use of chemistry instrumentation and laboratory equipment, and serve as the chemical Hygiene Officer for the College. Additionally, this position will have instructional responsibilities as needed by the department.
Minimum Education:
• Master’s Degree is required.
• Degree in a science related field is preferred.
Minimum Experience:
• Three years of experience is required.
• Experience with the maintenance and upkeep of instrumentation and equipment is required.

Candidates for the position must have a Master’s degree or higher in Chemistry, or related field from a regionally accredited institution. Experience maintaining chemical instrumentation and handling gases and cryogens is required
Job Functions:
Direct the operations of the fifth floor instrument room and oversee the use, maintenance, and repair of all chemistry-related instrumentation in the New Science Building (NSB).
Teaching freshman or upper division lecture or laboratory courses with an emphasis on those in analytical chemistry and instrumental analysis.
Assisting in the training and approval of new users on instruments and equipment and maintaining documentation of student and faculty safety training on instrumentation.
Assisting in the modification of existing equipment, new equipment design and fabrication, research laboratory set-up, and faculty specific needs.
Assisting in the selection, purchase, and the use of instruments and equipment used in courses and research, including setting up vendor demos and updating and negotiating service contracts.
Supports the office functions by completing all other duties and special projects as assigned.
