The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at Princeton University invites applications for multiple faculty positions at the assistant, associate, or full professor rank. We welcome applications from all areas in mechanical and aerospace engineering. Areas of particular interest are (1) sustainable energy and propulsion including energy and aerospace materials, green fuels, and nonequilibrium reacting flows,  (2) astronautical engineering and related sciences, and (3) applied physics, especially lasers, plasmas and related diagnostics. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in engineering, materials science, physics, chemistry, applied mathematics, or a related subject, and have a demonstrated record of excellence in research with the potential to establish an independent research program. We seek faculty members who will contribute to our community by embracing excellence and diversity, with a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring. We strongly encourage applications from women and members of underrepresented groups.

Princeton’s MAE department has a long history of leadership in its core areas of applied physics; control, robotics, and dynamical systems; fluid mechanics; materials science; combustion, propulsion, and energy sciences, with additional strengths in inter-disciplinary efforts impacting biology, bio-inspired design, the environment, and security.

We seek creative and enthusiastic candidates with the background and skills to build upon, and complement, our existing departmental strengths and those who can bridge the disciplines and research initiatives in the School of Engineering and Applied Science. An appointment may be made jointly with another department or program.

To ensure full consideration, applications should be received by November 15, 2021. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, including a list of publications and presentations, a 3-5 page summary of research accomplishments and future plans, a 1-2 page teaching statement, and contact information for at least three references online at https://www.princeton.edu/acad-positions/position/21561. Personal statements that summarize leadership experience and contributions to diversity are encouraged.
