The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

 

As a Research Specialist-Weathering Focus, you will apply a range of analytical techniques to provide fundamental understanding of the weathering and degradation of materials and products.  You will also have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

 

  • Developing and implementing new service life prediction protocols
  • Conducting scientific studies of the degradation of materials and products under both laboratory and natural weathering conditions
  • Applying the understanding of degradation processes to develop new, robust materials and products

Your Skills and Expertise 

 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
  • Three (3) years of experience testing materials under both natural and laboratory conditions (private, public, government or military)

 

 

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

 

  • Ph.D. degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Physical Chemistry, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited institution
  • Experience utilizing kinetic modeling and/or the various mechanisms of polymer degradation
  • Experience with characterization techniques, including Infrared (IR) and Ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, colorimetry, optical measurements, and/or mechanical measurements

 

 

Travel: May include up to 5% domestic/international

 

Relocation Assistance: May be authorized

 

 

 

Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).

 

 

 

Responsibilities of this position may include direct and/or indirect physical or logical access to information, systems, technologies subjected to the regulations/compliance with U.S. Export Control Laws.
