Cornell College, a residential-undergraduate liberal arts college, is seeking a biochemist for a full-time, tenure-track position beginning fall 2022. This is a joint appointment in the Biology and Chemistry departments focused on supporting our Biochemistry and Molecular Biology program. We are particularly interested in candidates who study molecular mechanisms of biological processes. Primary teaching responsibilities will include courses in the Ingenuity core curriculum, biochemistry, general or organic chemistry, subcellular biology, and an advanced topics course. The area of specialization is open; possibilities include, but are not limited to, neuroscience, molecular physiology, pharmacology, immunology, infectious disease, molecular genetics, environmental chemistry, or related fields. A Ph.D. is required, and post-doctoral or teaching experience is preferred.
The departments seek individuals committed to excellence and innovation in undergraduate education with an emphasis on hands-on research projects and active engagement of students in research endeavors. The candidate will be required to contribute to the departments’ strong commitment to student-faculty research, including participation in our 8-week Cornell Summer Research Institute (https://www.cornellcollege.edu/research/ ). The College strongly supports STEM education and routinely provides internal funding to facilitate student-faculty research. The Biology and Chemistry departments are located in the newly built Russell Science Center which houses a variety of instrumentation to support coursework and research projects, including several types of spectrometers (UV-vis, fluorescence, atomic absorption, and a 400 MHz NMR), chromatography equipment (HPLC, GCMS, FPLC, and flash), several PCR systems, an inverted fluorescent phase contrast microscope, a cell counter, a zebrafish embryo injection system, a microtiter plate reader, and an atomic force microscope.
