The Department of Chemistry at Hampden-Sydney College invites applications from outstanding candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in organic chemistry beginning August 2022.  In addition to teaching organic chemistry and intermediate lab and mentoring undergraduate researchers, teaching responsibilities may include general chemistry lecture, introductory lab, and/or advanced courses in the candidate’s specialty.  The teaching load is seven courses over the year, with lecture and laboratory offerings given equal weight.  The major in chemistry is approved by the American Chemical Society, and the major in biochemistry and molecular biology is accredited by the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.  Students enjoy the department’s unique laboratory program composed of eight semester-long research-style projects, the last four of which are directed independent research projects.  The department, which has mentored two Goldwater Scholars in the past seven years, is equipped with research grade instruments and has a burgeoning instrument endowment.  We move into a new building, the Pauley Science Center, in the summer of 2022.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching philosophy, a research statement anticipating undergraduate participation, and three confidential reference letters via Interfolio http://apply.interfolio.com/92635.  Further questions about this position may be addressed to Dr. Kevin M. Dunn (kdunn@hsc.edu). Formal review of applications begins October 15, 2021.
