Tenure-track Assistant Professor in Chemistry

Chemistry Full-Time Tenure Track Assistant Professor Position Available:

The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at University of Detroit Mercy in the College of Engineering & Science invites candidates to apply for a full-time tenure track faculty position with a specialty in Organic Chemistry, broadly defined. The candidate hired will start August 15, 2022. Detroit Mercy is dedicated to the goal of building a diverse and inclusive academic community. Applicants must have a strong interest in implementing best practices in pedagogy including evidence-based teaching and assessment strategies. In addition, we seek an educator who is an enthusiastic teacher-scholar committed to supporting the diverse population of undergraduate students we are seeking to attract.

Teaching responsibilities will include organic chemistry lecture and laboratory courses and potentially other courses based on area of expertise that complement or expand current offerings in the department.

Candidates should have a proposed research agenda geared toward a primarily undergraduate institution (PUI). The person hired is expected to pursue external funding and disseminate results in refereed publications and conferences. The research focus is Organic Chemistry, broadly defined, where the ability to engage and mentor undergraduate students in research is essential.

Required

• Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent in Chemistry or Chemical Education, with a focus in Organic Chemistry, broadly defined

• Experience teaching chemistry in the college setting

• Commitment to best-practice teaching strategies for a diverse student body

• Commitment to inclusion and diversity

• Evidence indicating promise of scholarly publications and research

• Ability to carry out research with undergraduates

Preferred

• Demonstration of initiative/equivalent leadership in a laboratory setting

• Knowledge of assessment strategies associated with course learning outcomes

• Evidence indicating promise of service to the Department, College, University, profession, and community
