Job Details

Guilford College invites applications for a full time faculty position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor in Biology and Chemistry to begin January 2022 and run through May 2023, for three semesters total (Spring 2022, Fall 2022 and Spring 2023). As the departments grow, the possibility exists that the contract length could be extended. The Departments of Biology and Chemistry employ experiential, inquiry-based learning to stimulate academic excellence through independent thinking, interdisciplinary applications and critical analysis to develop tomorrow’s leaders in the sciences. A specialization in biochemistry or other interdisciplinary field is preferred and the successful candidate will be expected to teach introductory and upper level courses in Biology and Chemistry, including Chemical Principles I and II, Introductory Biology: Molecules and Cells, and Biochemistry. The successful candidate will also mentor student research projects and supervise internships.

We wholeheartedly support Guilford College’s stated priority of being anti-racist and diverse. We specifically encourage applicants with identities, abilities and experiences that are underrepresented in higher education to apply.

The applicant should be able to demonstrate the ability to help diverse students to develop skills to pursue graduate research in biology, chemistry or related fields, attend graduate programs in the health professions, or pursue a career in industry. A masters degree in a relevant discipline is required, a PhD or other terminal degree is preferred. Successful experience in college teaching and in a work-related field are preferred.
