What Your Job Will Be Like
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee to advance the development of post-CMOS energy-efficient computing devices, especially oxide-based electronics to join our department!
On any given day, the researcher will:
- Be responsible for fabrication of devices
- Conduct construction and/or analysis of networks of devices
- Use advanced electrical and in-situ characterization techniques
- Develop mathematical models
- Document results in high-impact peer-reviewed literature
Qualifications We Require
- PhD degree in electrical engineering, physics, materials science, or a related field
- Experience with advanced electrical measurements of novel electronic devices
- Experience in performing in-situ measurements on devices
- Experience in building and/or analyzing networks of devices
- Basic experience with coding for simulations, modeling, instrumentation, data analysis etc.
- Record of peer-reviewed publications as a lead author.
Qualifications We Desire
- Experience with post-CMOS electronic devices/materials, such as memristors, oxide RRAM, phase change materials, 2D materials, etc.
- Exposure and/or experience with post-CMOS computing architectures such as bio-inspired or neuromorphic systems
- Experience with MATLAB and Python
About Our Team
The Materials Physics department performs fundamental research on the structure and properties of materials to support programs in energy research, device physics, materials reliability, and national security. Specific activities include experimental and modeling studies of surface electronic structure and surface atomic structure and dynamics of metals, oxides, low dimensional semiconductors, and adsorbates; atomic-scale structure and composition analysis of metals, semiconductors, and composites; electrical and optical properties of low-dimensional semiconductors and optoelectronic devices; and the structural and electrochemical characterization of solid-state ionic materials. The Department supports internal and external sponsors and government agencies that seek solutions to problems of fundamental scientific inquiry, energy sustainability, and national defense.
This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment.
Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.

Members of the workforce (MOWs) hired at Sandia who require uncleared access for greater than 179 days during their employment, are required to go through the Uncleared Personal Identity Verification (UPIV) process. Access includes physical and/or cyber (logical) access, as well as remote access to any NNSA information technology (IT) systems. UPIV requirements are not applicable to individuals who require a DOE personnel security clearance for the performance of their SNL employment or to foreign nationals. The UPIV process will include the completion of a USAccess Enrollment, SF-85 (Questionnaire for Non-Sensitive Positions) and OF-306 (Declaration of for Federal Employment). An unfavorable UPIV determination will result in immediate retrieval of the SNL issued badge, removal of cyber (logical) access and/or removal from SNL subcontract. All MOWs may appeal the unfavorable UPIV determination to DOE/NNSA immediately. If the appeal is unsuccessful, the MOW may try to go through the UPIV process one year after the decision date.
